According to this article in Wired, nearly 10 percent of companies have fired employees for violating company rules while blogging. Another 19 percent have disciplined employees for similar infractions.
Goes back to what I always say, making it clear to employees what is and isn’t acceptable in terms of what is communicated about the company [...]

And while I feel that employees should spend their time at work working, I don’t feel that companies should be monitoring what employees are doing outside of work, provided that they are not disparaging the company in any way.

And just when we thought that it couldn’t get any worse than the Radio Shack situation, there’s always further down to go.
According to a “non-scientific” survey reported by MSNBC, 14% of the men polled and 11% of the women polled stated that they would fire someone via IM (with an emoticon of course).
Oy.
