House Defeats Unemployment Extension Bill
Posted by Lori Dorn on June 11th, 2008The House of Representatives, fearing a presidential veto, defeated a Democratic Bill that would extend unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks (plus an extra 13 weeks for states like California who have unemployment rates above 6%).
Gee, with unemployment rates rising nationally (5.5% in May) and California holding at 6.2%, why oh why would we ever need an extension of UI?
Yes, I realize that the defeat of this bill is good news for employers, but I can’t help but think that there for the grace of the unemployed go I.
