In Memory of

This post has nothing to do with Human Resources.

Today is the third anniversary of my mother’s death. She died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS aka Lou Gherig’s Disease). The illness tried to rob her of her dignity, but never a more dignifed beautiful person will I ever meet. She faced each day with hope and determination to live as long as she possibly could. She outlived the doctors’ predictions threefold. And she never stopped smiling.

This is not a request for donations but ALS is a terrible disease for which there is no cure and funding to find a cure is not always readily available. If you feel moved to donate, please do so in the name of Vera Dorn to the Florida ALS Association. It will be incredibly appreciated.

Vera A. Dorn June 8, 1943 - April 18, 2003. You are terribly missed.

Lori - i just saw this memorial for your mom and wanted to let you know how much it touched me. your strength through this loss is commendable. three years isn’t very long at all. though i don’t know you incredibly well, i like you and hope the best for ya!

Lori- i emphasize with you and what you probably went through loosing your mother to such a horific disease as ALS.
I too lost my beloved mother 1year ago on FEb28,2005. My mom was the most caring courageous, independent woman i have ever known. The disease tried to take that from her but she fought it up untill the day she stopped breathing. She was STRONG. I wish you the best for its a hard road to hoe loosing your mom(in my case my best friend). If you ever need anything just em me. I pray for you often.

Hi Lori,

I know what it is like to loose your mother. I lost my mother just one month ago and I am finding it hard to function but I am taking it day by day. My mother didn’t pass from ALS but from COPD. I know what it is like to watch your mother deteriorate before your eyes and knowing there is little you can do makes you feel helpless. Like you mother, mine was always smiling and happy. She was happy just to be here with her children and her grandson. I hope you find peace and comfort. I guess things take time to heal just like wounds. Prayers are sent your way. Take Care.
